Preparations before you take flight:
1.Forex: When travelling out of India, it is always advisable to keep some foreign exchange with you, the currency will depend on your destination, its best to take USD to less popular destinations, as converting Indian money later will result in losses and USD generally has the best rate and whatever is left out of your trip can be used in later trips.
2. No matter from where you get your money exchanged it is always advisable to get it from an authentic source with proper receipts, these receipts will be required if custom guys during departure ask you if you are carrying any forex. Save yourself from all the troubles and get forex from legit sources.
3.How much forex to carry: Its depends on the compliment of the trip 100 $per person plus 100$ as emergency cash( Best is to keep this with passport and forget about it, you will be surprised how much it will be of use at the fag end of your trip), will help you with spendings during airport transfer and till the time you settle down.
International Debit/Credit Cards:
The best way to spend once you are out is through your credit/ debit cards and there are reasons to it.
Firstly the exchange rates that you get on transactions are from the current market rate.
One doesn’t have to worry about always carrying loads of cash when moving around, plus it makes the payment at tolls a cakewalk.
It helps you in keeping a track of all your expenses. Additionally it will also help you in case there is any fraudulent transaction( cc only) to stop the transaction and get the money back.
Now a days all the debit cards come with Chip and are internationally accepted, but to be on safer side its advisable to activate international services from your bank, cause there have been cases where international transactions have raised a red flag at bank resulting in blocking of card, to avoid all this activate international transactions.
Packing:
Please read our post on travelling with infants for little tricks we have learnt over the years. There are some golden rules which i am sure every seasoned traveller will agree to. Travel light, it is not a punishment for a comfortable trip. After your next trip just keep a stock of cloths that barely stayed on you, you will be surprised how much extra clothing we carry. Most of it is what we want and less of what we need.
To know what cloths you will need, a little bit of research will give help you plenty. Additionally real time information from people actually present at location on web forums like tripadvisor will give you an insight of what to expect.
FOOD:
Tbh when it comes to food, over the years it has raked up in ranks and is one of the top priority, and if you guys stick around i am sure you will agree with us.
Firstly lets just accept the fact that indian food is unique in its own ways, some are spicy, hot, mouth watering, you name a taste and you will find it on your plate.
But like every other traveller think that one should explore other cuisines, try out new things in LIFE, we totally agree with them one must tryout new cuisines.
There is a catch though, we are humans and like other animals food is our basic need too. When on a long trip, one at times miss indian food and take it from me in writing, a good meal can totally change the mood of the trip.
The food items that we suggest to carry are for times:
⁃ when you arrive at your hotel/ BnB, tried from a long journey, jet lagged, all you will need is a good meal and some rest. Ready to eat is what you will need, the food is tried and tested and it just takes a minute to make it.
⁃ There will be days (again, not always) when you wake up late, only to find out free breakfast timings are over. Trust us, a quick ready to eat breakfast will not just give you sufficient fuel to kick start your day but also save from hunger and agony of getting ready, finding a restaurant. These activities if not planned, can consume half of your day.
⁃ Similarly there will be days when you will arrive late after a long day out, a quick ready to eat will help you settle down to sleep.
⁃ The space saved by consuming the items creates extra space for all your shopping done during the trip.
⁃ A combination of breakfast meals, maggie, ready to eat curries and small amount of condiments is all you will need to carry from home. Rest of the fresh items and cereals can be purchased from supermarkets.
Why just eat ready to eat, finding a full fledged kitchen in Air BnB is a breeze, you got to see it to believe it
